Among these are the BMW 5 series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. All these cars come in the category of all the Rs 1 crore and they give experience of the S-Class and the world's 7-Series. Today we are going to introduce you to BMW 6GT, also called BMW 630i Gran Turismo. This car is available in only one variant in India. It is an aggressive car with luxury comfort and it offers a different driving experience for those who drive German cars. We ran the new BMW 630i GT more than two weeks and what we think about it are going to tell you.
Design
Needless to say, this is a Gran Turismo style that combines the convenience of a luxury sedan with a coupé design line. The length of BMW 6GT is 5,091mm, width is 1,902mm and height is 1,538mm. This gives a much larger experience than what you see in the BMW 5 series. It descends on a scale of approximately 7-Series. The BMW 630i Gran Turismo also provides an extended bonnet that maintains the overall proportion of the car. The seats are also down and despite low rooftop line, there is enough headroom for everyone sitting in 6GT. The wheelbase of the BMW 6GT is 3,070mm and in the case of design cherry is its door at the top. All doors come with a frameless window design.
On the upfront, it offers BMW's trademark Kidney Grill and offers a symmetrical design element to headlight units grill in a way that is not much in your face. BMW 6GT comes with BMW's Adaptive LED headlights and includes Dataime Driving Light Rings. In the headlight, the BMW Selective Beam offers a range of up to 500 meters with anti-diesel high beam, which can give you better driving experience at the highway at night.
Those unique glass covers in the rear have been received on harmoniously lit LED units, which make the 6GT rear lighting system best in the market in terms of design aesthetics. The design of 6GT is also engineered to supernatural perfection. Active air flap control has been mixed on the BMW Kidney Grill with coupé design, which opens only when more cooling is required. The underbody section has been almost completely closed. Air curtains and air breathing disturbances reduce the disturbance on the front wheels.
Apart from this, the active rear spoiler rises automatically when the car speed exceeds 120 kmph and it comes back when the speed of the car is below 80 kmph. It helps reduce drag coefficient and provides more planting and control driving experience. The BMW 6GT comes with a 18-inch alloy wheel which has been given standard and it is available in India only in the sports line equipment lines.
Interior
Talk about the interior of BMW 6GT, the car's cabin is completely luxury. It is not premium like Audi but it has been given luxury styling. The space has been used quite well and the front is quite driver-oriented. The standard Dakota leather upholstery has been given in the car and it comes in exquisite stitching with two colors, Canberra badges and cognac. Chrome's Shine Piano Black Finish has been used quite well in the car's center console. The problem with shiny black panels is that in India, the work under construction is high, due to which dust dust is high. In such a case, to keep the shiny black clean in the interior of 6GT, a wet cloth is required, so that the scratches are not taken. In the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, the sports leather steering wheel has been provided with multifunction button standards for infotainment, communication functions and cruise control.
Increased seating positions have also been provided for drivers and front passenger, which sometimes make us feel that we are sitting in a compact SUV. At the rear of 6GT, three adults can sit comfortably, but we are confident that two of them can sit in a much more comfortable state and experience the lounge in it. For long distance travel, back, good and high Thai support has been given for the passengers sitting in the back seat, and despite the low slung roof line we get more headroom than 5 series.
The rear bench seats can be recalculated and the rear seat passengers have two big touch screen displays according to the comfort needs inside the cabin. The new BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo offers four-zone automatic climate control which allows the individual control of temperature and ventilation intensity for driver and front passengers. There is enough sound proofing for a degree inside the car. In this, if the vehicle will run at a speed of 100 kmph then you will feel that it is running at 30 kmph.
In addition the car has a 610 liters of improved boot space. BMW claims that 46-inch golf bags can easily be kept in it. The car's tailgate is electronic and comes with automatic opening and closing function.
BMW 6GT comes with many assistive systems. It has standard stereo camera to monitor around the vehicle, braking function with cruise control, park distance control (PDC), which comes with sensors in front and rear. Needless to say, the Apple Carplay standard has been given in it. It has a big touchscreen futuristic system which is a showstop inside 6GT. It comes with gesture control and call pickup and track selection for the volume, which was first seen in BMW 7-Series and then given in 5-series and now 6GT.
A 12-speaker set car for 205 W power and music with BMW's Hi-Fi loudspeaker system has been given. Along with this, a 10.25 inch LCD panel is provided for infotainment which gives a better touchscreen response and a resolution clerity of 1440 x 540 pixels. Overall, the BMW 6GT cabin is something that you would love to be inside all the time and it does not matter whether you are in the front seat or behind.
The performance
BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo has been given the latest generation BMW petrol engine, which is equipped with 8-speed speculator transmission. 6GT comes with 4-cylinder petrol engine and its capacity is 1,988cc. This engine generates a power of 258hp at 5,000 - 6,500 rpm and torque of 400Nm at 1,550 - 4,400 rpm. 6GT takes 6.3 seconds to catch the speed of 0 to 100 km per hour. So if you want to get into the drag race with the E-Class, you can easily go. GT's top speed is 250 kmph and we believe it can go further. BMW claims that this car gives the mileage of 14.28 kmpl, but we can not even bring it to 12 kmpl in cities such as Delhi, Highway and Traffic conditions.
When it comes to transmission and throttle control, BMW 6GT is also a very intelligent car. BMW has used intelligent networking mechanism in it, in which 8-speed spec transmision drivers can adapt their shift strategy in current driving conditions. The Navigation System Professional and Intelligent Transmission Management System works in Tandem to take full advantage of the engine breaking effect, depending on the navigation data, it can initially downhill if arriving at an intersection. These are small things that force them to pay for such cars. Apart from this, the ECO PRO mode has been given in which the driver gives accelerator at 50 to 160 kmph, then the car cancels the power line.
But the pleasure to run this vehicle is in sports mode, where it shows the power of a true driver car. It handles well, while driving you are always ready for the next step, and all bells and whistles work in a complete harmony to smile on your face. But we think that 6 GT is best enjoyed on a journey or a long drive compared to the streets of the city.
Our decision
BMW has sensibly kept 6GT between 5-series and 7-series. Also, there is a product offered which is better placed between the two in terms of price and performance. BMW 6GT is a car that has all the drama, all the omph and all the driving pleasure you want if you are planning to upgrade to your Mercedes-Benz E-Class, 5-Series or Audi A6, then it's for you. There is a better option. This is for those who do not want to spend more than Rs. 1 crore on the upgrade. Because if you have so much money then the 7-Series or S-Class should be your natural choice.
